Hello Hinckley-Big Rock! My name is Megan Sheffer and I joined the HBR team in September subbing at the Elementary School and now supporting in the District Office. My family and I moved to Hinckley in February 2023 from Michigan. My husband Kyle, is an air traffic controller and my daughter, Emily, is in the Early Childhood program at the elementary school. I also have a step daughter named Cecelia (Cece) who is 10 years old and lives in Key West, Florida. She visits us for spring break and summer break.
We have moved around a bit since 2015. I was born and raised in South Florida. Graduated from Florida State University. When I met Kyle he was moving to Vermont to start his career and I decided to go with him, not knowing anything about Winter! That year I went through my first snowstorm and enjoyed shoveling through 3 feet of snow just to get to my car. I debated moving back down south. We lived there for about 2.5 years and then moved to Michigan where he is from. We enjoyed buying our first house there and having our daughter. We stayed in Michigan for about 4.5 years and we got a transfer to Chicago. We were so excited! We didn't know exactly what area we wanted to live in until we found this town. We found an amazing house in an amazing neighborhood. We moved in and were immediately greeted by the neighbors. So many kids and great people.
I couldn’t have imagined a better place to raise my family. Everyone we have met thus far has been so kind and welcoming. We love to attend all the community events like the tree lighting and Halloween festival. We enjoy going to the public library to check out books and do arts and crafts. It's so nice to see how everyone in town shows up to each event and has a great time together. Emily joined soccer this past season and it was great to watch her make more friends. Cece enjoyed a summer of swimming in our new pool and playing with our neighborhood friends. She was outside all day everyday. She just tried out for softball in Florida because of the girls she met in Hinckley.
I am coming up on a year in Hinckley (February) and I look forward to many more years to come. Making more friends and watching my kids grow. Developing a career in the school district and truly being a part of this great community.
