November 7-17
Fall has been bountiful for the Hinckley - Big Rock FFA Chapter! On Friday October 18th, the corn crop planted in the Ag Plot was harvested. As this is not an easy task, we would like to give a huge thank you to Wackerlin Farms/ FFA Alumni for harvesting; Pioneer seeds for the weigh wagon; and White Farms for working the soil! Alongside our volunteers, advisors Tracey Sanderson and Zoey Dye joined in on the fun, bringing with them 5 high school students. The community members proudly supporting the HBR FFA everyday allows for the students to continue to have extremely rewarding experiences and further their education every day! From funds raised from the Ag Plot and our generous donors, we are able to provide opportunities, such as a trip to the National FFA Convention!! This is a convention for all the FFA Chapters in the U.S.A, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Once a year, students, advisors, and guests meet to celebrate the accomplishments won over the past year, and to elect a new officer team to serve the following term. Illinois has great representation with Thaddeus Bergschneider, former Illinois FFA State President, serving as the National FFA President the 2024-2025! From October 22-25 5 HBR High School students traveled with advisors Tracey Sanderson and Zoey Dye to Indianapolis, IN. During their trip, they toured Purdue University - Animal Sciences, attended several convention sessions, had the opportunity to meet with businesses and colleges, and made new connections from across the country. Students also experienced the annual rodeo and bonded as a chapter at Back 9 Golf. Natalie Wilkening, a current HBR senior, writes, “HBR just went to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. Between the convention itself to the rodeo and then golfing it was a great experience. I went as a Freshman and then went again her Senior year and I have loved it every time. My experience as a Freshman was an experience to not forget since not a lot of Freshman go their first year of high school. It’s a good opportunity to meet other people from around the world and just to have fun with your FFA Chapter for a week”.
