We are off to a great start to the 2023-24 school year at Hinckley-Big Rock High School! Our students were welcomed in style with a red carpet, music, and a high-energy assembly on the first day of school. We got the year kicked off with excitement and a positivity you can easily see and feel.
As we set the stage for this year, I have been thinking about how we can build on this positive energy and make HBRHS an even better place to learn and grow. How can we engage our students and gain their insights into what HBRHS needs to feel like as they walk these halls and engage in their learning in each of the classrooms? What expectations do we need to have of ourselves and each other to create this feeling? As a first step, all of our students wrote short notes of encouragement that are displayed in our main hallway and started conversations about this during Flex Periods last week. We will be engaging them in further conversations this month. I am excited about where this will lead as we continue to seek their input. Stay tuned…
One of the ways to create a positive high school experience and make new connections is through club and activity involvement and we are proactively seeking ways to help our students get involved. We held an Activity Fair last Friday and all of our students had the opportunity to explore the club and athletic options available to them. We have over 23 unique opportunities available to our students! Many of these clubs have already kicked off with their first meetings. I am excited to see the ways our students are already engaging!
We are also quickly approaching one of my favorite times of the year at HBRHS…Homecoming! I absolutely love our Homecoming traditions and look forward to the excitement again this year with theme days, the Student-Staff Volleyball Tournament, and the culmination of the week with the parade, the Taste of HBR, and soccer under the lights. I love it!
